David Air

David A. Air of Winter Haven died peacefully on 22nd December 2022

He was the founder of the Koi-Hai group and editor of this website.

David was born in Edinburgh, Scotland to Thomas and Joan Air. He completed his education at George Heriots’ School in Edinburgh. After spending time as a pilot with the Royal Navy - Fleet Air Arm, David attended Heriot Watt College, where he graduated as a Mechanical Engineer. David worked in a variety of countries, including India, South Africa, Britain and the USA. He enjoyed serving as Director of Gencor Inc., headquartered in Orlando for many years.

David married Christine in Assam, India in 1954. They welcomed two sets of twins, born in India: Patrick and Penny in 1956, then Giles and Geoffrey in 1962. Sadly, Christine died of cancer in 1980.

After a long distance courtship, he married Cynthia Rector, from Alabama, in 1991, when he retired and joined Cynthia in Florida. Cynthia looked after him exceedingly well.

During his working life he managed various divisions of companies and eventually started his own business in 1983.

David was extremely proud of his family. As well as his four children, he had 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, all of whom are doing very well in life.

For many years David enjoyed the Winter Haven Country Club, taking several groups of Lake Region golfers to Scotland to show them the birth place of the game.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at the Winter Haven Country Club on February 21st 2023 at 2.00 pm and in the UK this summer.
